Setting AppServer file plugin default share dir to net share

Postby Chuck.Amata » Thu Oct 05, 2017 3:22 pm

We are running servoy 7.x application server in a production environment under Windows 2012 server. We have a solution that uses the file plugin that we would like to point at a network share. We tested the application by pointing the default file plugin directory on the application server to C:\ and we are able to access files in this and any subdirectory without problems. When we change the default file plugin directory to V:\ (this drive is mapped to the network share \\cpt\cpt-storage\VisualFactoryResouces ) the plug in’s get server default path comes back blank and we can not access any files on the drive. We have even tried setting permissions to Everyone=Full Control on this share to no avail. The Servoy Application Server service is currently running under SYSTEM credentials. When we check the effective permissions for the mapped drive for SYSTEM, the server server comes back with Full Control.

Any insight on the above or a tutorial on using a network path as the default path for the file plugin would be helpful.

There is two things I would try:

1. use the UNC path instead of the driver letter
2. if you run your server as a (windows) service, the user that runs this typically is "system". "system" usually has no rights to access network resources. You have to make sure the service runs under an account that does have network access.

Thanks. The combination of the UNC path and changing the service user ID to one with administrator privileges seemed to do the trick.

It would be nice to have more help available on this topic on future releases. Perhaps a reminder on paths and login privileges and some path examples in the tooltips on the application server when the user mouses over the field.
