Data Sutra v4.0

Postby david » Wed Jan 16, 2013 11:43 pm

Ready to move to the web and mobile in a big way?

After eight months of development and rigorous testing with Servoy 6.1.x, today we are releasing Data Sutra version 4.0. The marque features of this release are:

• a refreshed UI (tablet compatible)
• an awesome new web client
• a ton of ground breaking web customizations
• fully tested on webkit browsers, iPads and high-end Android tablets

Just how good is Data Sutra 4.0? Well, you can try it right now. We have two demo servers up and running:

US Server
Europe Server

We've scaled out our support infrastructure to handle as many developers that want to hop on board. Check out the new dedicated website:

Data Sutra website

How much does it cost you ask? Data Sutra is now AGPLv3 open source. No code locking -- go for it.

We also have a Premium plan with a commercial license, code locking service (IP protection), and exclusive forum access if you are developing applications that you will not be releasing open source.

If you're still reading, we are running a "stealth" special through the end of this month (January 2013) where if you sign up for our Premium plan -- instead of the listed prices of $35/monthly|$300/yearly, when you get over to PayPal you will see $10/monthly|$100/yearly.

This price will stay the same for as long as you remain a Data Sutra Premium subscriber. Early adopter goodness.

Thank you to all the beta testers who have banged away at our servers and our code. If you see something working or something looking really cool that you suggested, well -- it's because you suggested it.

And lastly, a special thanks to all the Servoy engineers who made 6.1.3 happen. I think there was one day where we saw 5 or so of you working on our open cases at the same time. Really cool iterating with you and loving the results.

Cheers - David and Troy

Hi David/Troy
another big thanks for what you have done!
I also tried Europe server and got blank screen, but logged into US fine... (Safari)

Looking at your home page, when I tried to download it (from open source side http://www.data-sutra.com/download), I got error
Access is denied or Error occurred

Really keen to download a copy to have a play with, as I'm about to start a new project and thinking about which framework to go for (& if it's yours, to sign up before end of month!)

Thanks

Waking up here. Great to see the interest! Much appreciated.

1- Yes, Chrome/Safari only at this point. We have Firefox almost ready, there is just one thing that we're stuck on currently. We haven't tackled various IE versions yet.

2- Thanks for catching broken links, fixed. The important ones you should know about are:

• Trello dev board: https://trello.com/b/OAoCgm50
• Main wiki page. Right now it has the minimum required information -- detailed install instructions! http://community.data-sutra.com/projects/datasutra/wiki
• Bug reporting: http://community.data-sutra.com/project ... issues/new
• Forums: http://community.data-sutra.com/project ... tra/boards

3- We just installed the Europe server last weekend. We are aware of the unusually long time sitting on a blank screen when you first hit it (it will show up if you wait wait wait...). For the life of us we can't see what the problem is. But then again we haven't had much time to look at it except to rule out the obvious things. Once you manage to log in, it flies.

Note that we recommend ~50ms ping times (or less!) to the server for optimal performance. So please report your ping times when filing issues.

Fixed. Somehow we managed to install the repository tables as myisam instead of innodb.

Firefox enabled on the test servers. The Aurora channel is pretty darn fast.

We still need to do a few css tweaks for Firefox but it is fully functional with our limited testing today. Additional feedback welcome.

We opened up our demo servers to basically all flavors of tablets (including Amazon's Silk browser). If you have a Kindle Fire, Galaxy Note/Tablet, Nexus tablet, etc -- we could use some help testing.

US server: http://demo.data-sutra.com
Europe server: http://europe.data-sutra.com

We have tested iPads 2 and later and Android Jellybean, Icecream Sandwich, Gingerbread.

We just posted a training course: "Web Starter Package: Fast-track your apps to the web" for $1,499 USD:

Who it is for
New and current Servoy developers needing to get up to speed with web development.

What you accomplish
Develop a working web application and deploy on a real server—the right way.

Go to http://www.data-sutra.com/starter-package for full course details.

What you get
Five 2-hour one-on-one training sessions, a testing/staging server (very very fast) for six months, and two hours of tech support.

What you will learn
A solid foundation of knowledge and skills to build web applications with Servoy and Data Sutra.

Pre-requisites
This is not a beginning programming course!

Application development experience and prior knowledge of Javascript will get you through your first application and working on staging and testing.

Servoy experience will get you through the advanced sessions.

A decent computer and internet connection, a desire to learn, and beverages of choice are the only other things you need close at hand.

Instructors
David and Troy from Data Mosaic present various sessions. Frequent presenters at Servoy Conferences, fulltime Servoy developers since before Servoy was released 10 years ago, publishers of Servoy Magazine, and the developers behind Data Sutra and Sutra CMS.

Forum only special: first 5 signups will get the course for $999.00 USD (instead of $1,499.00 USD). Clicking the purchase button will show the discounted price on the next page.

Live now on our test servers: our new unified (same on all browsers) pdf/report viewer. Go to Test suite > Customer > Print > This week's activities. Works on tablets too.

Pull from SVN or included in next week's 4.0.1 release.
