    * Each presentation is followed up with Q&A from the audience and discussion among the panelists
    * The Servoy Puzzler - correct answer and winner announced from the previous meeting's' Puzzler, and a new puzzler announced

Call for presenters

Postby amcgilly on Tue Aug 14, 2007 11:02 pm

I'm still looking for more people to present at the Sept 6th VUG. Don't be shy! Presentations don't need to be long or polished or moments of pure genius, they just need to show some interesting approach you've taken to solving a problem in your Servoy development work. Also good exposure for you and/or your organization.

If you're interested in presenting, please contact me by private message (PM button below). Thank you.

Many thanks to the presenters at today's meeting: Robert Ivens, Greg Pierce & David Workman. Also thanks to Scott Butler of Servoy for being on hand to answer technical questions, and to Servoy for supporting the VUG. Hope to see you all in a couple months.

Below are the materials from two of the topics I presented at today's VUG meeting:

1. Customizing a Solution's Security - It is possible to do management of users & group membership outside of the Servoy Security Tool, and to implement your own login form. I have posted to my website an article that describes how to do this. The article also explains how to use a free module called McGilly_Security that adds basic user & group management and login functionality to any solution. You can use this module as a starting point and customize further as needed.

The article is here: http://mcgilly.com/Security/Security_Article.htm
The module is here: http://mcgilly.com/Security/McGilly_Security.servoy

2. SQL Views in Servoy - I gave a presentation on using SQL Views in combintaion with a table filter to address a particular client need. Attached is the Powerpoint preso from that presentation.

Hi Adrian,
thanks for hosting & presenting.
Unfortunately I had to leave just as you were finishing the 2nd part of your pres., so missed the bit about renaming objects. That's the bit you haven't put up anything about :( . If you have any notes/pres. files related to what you said, I'd really appreciate seeing them.
Thanks,
Rafi

p.s. & anything David did as well :D

Here is the demo solution (with core module) that I used in my presentation.
I added a lot more info on the forms to tell you what it does. So even if you didn't see my presentation you should be able to get the 3 tips/tricks I showed.

Demo 1: using a core module to easily manage a formInDialog (including disallowing a user to close the dialog by using the X)
Demo 2: How to use buttons/methods on a Form that is in find-mode.
Demo 3: how to keep non-matching values stored when using checkboxes and dynamic valuelists.

The solution is for Servoy 3.1 and above. It requires a connection named "user_data".

I heard from a couple people this was the best VUG yet -- great, well planned demos with lots of value!

Thank you all. We will post next date soon (sometime in Nov.)

I would like to chime in here and express my deepest gratitude to all the presenters, who did an excellent job at providing useful insights for all Servoy fans, touching on several different areas. I know it can be a lot of work to put together and prepare for something like this, and I appreciate all the efforts and sharing. [And thanks for the prize, also!]

Sincerely,

Ben
