Font kerning issue when printing

We experience lots of font kerning issues when printing with 2.2RC7 with java 1.5 release 3.
This on several postscript printers, several different hosts and several fonts.

Does anybody have the same troubles?

Nobody reported a kerning issue until now, but this nasty thing makes printed document almost unusuable with such an ugly look!

Yes, that’s why I don’t update to java 1.5!!

I did report this about a half year ago, but Servoy can’t do a thing about it. The printing in java 1.5 is totally different.

It is getting worse when you use printscaling of 150 in Servoy.
It’s a real nigthmare, I agree!

I also reported this to SUN, and got a reply back, that there was an issue, that they should fix, but that was a half year ago

I would, that Servoy could do something about this, maybe by reporting this to SUN.

Same problem here. Letters just sort of slide into each other. Unfortunately, I need Java 1.5 for other reasons that are fixed there…

Servoy, can we or you do something about this?
Can we give this issue a higher priority?

Same as Patrick,

we also need java 1.5 for other bug correction…

Hi, coming from a design background this tread makes me curious.
Maybe there is a workaround to switch font technology?

Does the kerming problem apply to all types of fonts?
a) Postscript Type 1
b) Truetype
c) Opentype

on what platforms do you see this problem? Win, Mac, Linux?

This happens only at printing. Even the print-preview is good!
the print-out not!

At least it happens on Win

OK, what make of printer(s)?

I was just thinking of the well-known FileMaker 5/6 page-boundary bug which only affect HP printers. The problem is that most my customers have HP printers…

Every printer!

To give an update, the printing issue appears with every type of fonts on our PS printers. The problem is more or less apparent depending on the chosen font (“Times” appears to give us the best result, although the bad kerning remains evident. Times, not Times new roman).

…and printing of complex reports with tables, cell borders and portals is not fully supported by pdf plugin! HELP!

Its a JVM bug, we found a workarround, it will be in Servoy 2.2 final.
Thanks to HJK for doing test with intermediate builds!

 Great news!
