I must say I am surprised to hear that loosing your group permissions like that is a known issue. I’ve never seen this happen.
Then again I religiously run disk util (fix permissions) before and after an update/install because I know not all installers are so nice to return some permissions to their original state.
Anyway, I am glad to hear you’ve got it working again.

Robert, Irene, I don’t think that repairing permissions could help in this case. Disk Utility repair only permissions of known system files and this is not a system file so if you need to change permissions you can use the “chown” command.

You are absolutely right. Disk utility wouldn’t have fixed this issue because the Servoy installer doesn’t write a receipt in /Library/Receipts/ .
But when certain file permissions are set wrong they can affect other files because some process couldn’t do something, etc.
It’s a bit of a cascading effect that I call ‘stain on stain’. You don’t notice it at first but it can get really messy over time.
Keeping your permissions in good order by running Disk Utility should prevent this.
By the way, I am seeing the unknown group now as well when I create new directories for instance. Maybe 10.5.5 gave us this ‘feature’?

It works fine for me, I tried to create a dir in the terminal and in the finder and:
nick:~ nick$ mkdir test_dir
nick:~ nick$ ls -lah
drwxr-xr-x 2 nick nick 68B 7 Ott 17:31 test_dir
Maybe your user does not have an assigned group?

Via the terminal it all works fine but when you create one via the finder it doesn’t.
Smells like a bug to me.
On the web it is described as a bug, it seems to happen when you overwrite Tiger, as I did… lazy me. Reinstalling my computer and copying my stuff back from backup worked for me, my app. server works like sunshine… with clouds, now when I want to commit my changes it says that he can’t because the repository has changed.
I’m pretty new to 4.0 so I’ have not a clue where I can fix this.
