Ellen, if you are using subreports (and params), please have a look also here. Are you passing parameters to your subreport?
If possible, please make a case attaching the a simple report, subreport, solution + create database sql.

Do you have a tutorial on how to use Subreports and parameters? The link to the 3.2 release notes does not show how to do that… I am using subreports with parameters, but not foundsets.
Still hoping for more info on subreports, but in the meantime I’ve figured out a big part of what was making me have trouble with the jasper plugin. When I am referring to the .jrxml files in my
plugins.jasperPluginRMI.runReport('data','crvoucher8.jrxml',null,OUTPUT_FORMAT.VIEW,params,'en');
command when the .jasper files are sitting next to the.jrxml in that directory (as iReport generates them there), more often than not I get a generic error that shows up in the console as:

When I take the .jasper files out of the reports directory, I get real errors that explain what the file is missing to run. Note that I get the same blank wrapped exception if I call the .jasper file in the plugin runReport command. This is currently JasperReports 3.3.0b1, but same problem on 3.2. Chart and Scripts edition. This error has taken several days to diagnose.

Ellen, about this issue with .jasper and .jrxml files: could you please make sure it’s not a version problem? If you are compiling with an iReport version that is based on a different version of the jasperreports engine, than the plugin is based on, you could run into problems.
We are using JasperSoft’s 4.2.1 of iReport Professional. How do I check compatibility? (and thanks for the info!)

If you are using the 3.2.0 version of the plugin, which uses the jasperreports 4.0.0 library version (see the jasperreports.*.jar in /plugins/servoy_jasperreports), you need to use iReport.4.0.0. I am sure iReport 4.2.1 is based on a higher version of jasperreports than the one the Servoy JasperReports plugin is based on.

You can try to manually check each library from the jasperreports plugin and update to the one used in iReport 4.2.1; but you also need to have all libraries in sync with the ones from your Servoy installation (so iReport, JasperReports Servoy plugin and Servoy must have same versions for the libraries used). So we recommend not doing this, as you could break current functionality and also run into lib “clash” issues, between the libraries provided by Servoy and the ones in the plugin (i.e. here with the ones from your iReport designer).
Any chance I can just open and resave them in iReports 4.0? I am not the author of these reports. Not clear on the feature difference between the free 4.0 and pro 4.2.1.

Give this a try (but also have your original reports backed up); i am not sure it will work 100% - if the gap of jasperreports engine used by the iReport desginers is from 4.0 to 4.2.1, problems may arise.
Any chance you guys are planning to make the jasper plugin work with the pro version of iReports (as well as 4.0)?
So Andrei – This morning it seems to be working well only calling the jrxml with no .jaspers in the directory. Think I should just leave it as is and assume all is well now?
Argh, with one exception. It’s having a hard time finding my subreports… Not sure if that’s related to the versioning though.

Ellen, using subreports should work with the plugin (sql based reports or foundset based reports). Please try using, as you mentioned earlier, a Servoy 5.2.11 and a 3.2 version of the plugin, with a simple report (+ subreport) created in iReport 4.0.0 - so, a simple scenario. It should work like in such a situation/scenario.
If this does not work, please file a case, providing as many details as possible, on the plugin’s ServoyForge project site.
