JZ00L: Login failed with iPhone Demo...

Greetings,

I downloaded the Community Edition 4.1 of Servoy and iPhone demo with database and was following the step by step from the PDF when, in pretty much the first step or two, I get this error “JZ00L: Login failed”. The step had my right click on a database and select “Create New Database”, etc - which I followed to a T… This is “Section 2: Installation” of http://servoy.com/docs/servoy_4/iPhone_ … _Guide.pdf

No luck.

I am running a Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS on a Quad Core HP box with 4G RAM and 640G drive - plenty of room on it. I am three decades proficient with databases and development but this is one of those which has me. Its been 2 days and I cant get around this error.

I’ve made sure that my PATH is OK:

PATH=C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\hp\bin\Python;C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin;C:\Program Files (x86)\Servoy\application_server\sybase_db\scripts

My Java version:

java version "1.6.0_12"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_12-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.2-b01, mixed mode, sharing)

And the Sybase Log File(sybase_log.txt):

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can get past this error and to the next step of this demo?

Well, this has been one absolute waste of my time. I eventually got past the login failed error. How? I have no idea. Several reboots, poking and prodding - something stuck. But now I am stuck on the import of the project. This has got to be one of the most discombobulated demos I have ever encountered. It should NEVER be this difficult. Now I end up with these errors:

Importing mod_iPhone.servoy…
[info] Import contains XML version 14 and repository version 35.
[error] Server ‘servoy_iphone_framework’ does not exist. Import failed.
[error] com.servoy.j2db.persistence.RepositoryException: Operation cancelled

Why? Beats the heck out of me. Could be any number of things which, at this point in time, I am no longer interested in finding out the reasons for. In the past 3 days I could have gone and purchased a Mac Mini and joined the Apple Developer group and began to teach myself Objective-C, which would go a lot further on my resume than debugging a demo.

Thanks for the demo… I would have liked to have produced iPhone apps with little effort as the video promo states… but now I must attend to my hosed up machine here and remove this mess.

For any product there is a learning curve so things are not so easy from the beginning. The error you get means you have to create the server( database connection) where the database structure and data will be imported. (servoy_iphone_framework) You can do that from admin page (add server) or developer ( create sybase database). Most of the cases (except for ‘create sybase database’ functionality) you have to create the database outside servoy then tell servoy how to connect to it.

I think the problem is that Vista doesn’t allow writing to the “program files” folder after installation. Can you try installing Servoy in a different folder?

I would normally agree with that statement “For any product there is a learning curve so things are not so easy from the beginning.” except that with a demo, which has specific and detailed instructions and is geared toward getting me up and running fast (as stated in the marketing materials, videos, etc), it just wasnt so. I should have been able to follow a set of instructions and not have the first step bomb (creating the database) which took 2 days and who knows exactly why it eventually got created.

I will put it simply: what should have been a simple follow-the-directions demo that would entice me to look into the product further has turned into a pound the square peg into the round hole with a mallet frustrating effort. " Most of the cases (except for ‘create sybase database’ functionality) you have to create the database outside servoy then tell servoy how to connect to it." is one example of that. How is anyone supposed to know that when operating from a set of several steps in a quick-setup guide? Thats all I am saying.

I made sure all permissions were available to my login, which is “Administrator” but elevated privileges to the other IDs for that directory structure. I may give this another shot in time, and will keep that (a different directory) in mind. Thanks.

OK, I tried to install into a different folder. The installer dies. It asks me where to install to, and I select a new location. It asks me to select the options, and I select all of them. Then it takes off running in what seems to be a normal, new install, and when it finishes there is a Next-> button, available so I click it and its a blank screen. See attached.

If I click the <-Previous button it goes back and,to my horror, it actually installs all over again! Click Next-> again and I get the blank screen in the installer. Click Quit and it exits and there is NOTHING INSTALLED.

So… A new problem and I am not chasing this one down for days. I give up. It should never be this difficult, ever. Good luck with this thing. I am going to the Apple store and getting myself a Mac Mini and downloading Objective-C and whatever else I need (that I had wanted to avoid AND that the marketing/promotional videos claimed I would not need to do). But I think its far better for my resume and for my sanity to do just that.

Someone posted the same screen not to long ago, see this topic.
The problem was that the installer doesn’t work correctly when using 64bit java. Try running it with the 32bit version.

Its all uninstalled now. I’ve got a Mac Mini and have taken up Objective-C with the Cocoa Touch Framework… I’d much rather have myself knee-deep in coding anyway. :D

Then Objective-C is definitely the better choice ;)

Good luck!
