Multilingual

I’m trying to make my solution multilingual, using the following structure:

-a new database “dictionary”, for every title a field, for every language a record

-a global field “language” and a relation from this field to a languagenr- field in the “dictionary”-database

-for every user a “language field”, set by startup.

This works very fine, but maybe there’s a better way to do this.

Problem with this method are column headers (portal & list view) and title text of windows, I can’t get this done.

Anyone?

Stef

Maybe the better way is to wait untill Servoy included localisation into their product… :D

somewhere on the forum they’ve talked about it, dunno what the current status is. Maybe we’ll see it in the first beta after the release of 2.0…

Thanks Paul. Didn’t know that was on the planning.
This will help me a lot.

yes it will be done right after the release of 2.0

Hi Johan,
I have to develop a multi-user custom made database that should be multi-langual : each user wants to select the user-interfaces’ language (choose among 2 or more languages). These languages are not in the same font codepages (English & Russian, Armenian, …)

It seems that, to date, it should be done in ‘the FileMaker way’ : a language table (with one record for each language and a lot of columns for all the text elements of the user interface) and a global value for the choosen language.
With Servoy is it possible to realize this in a more optimal way ?

Is it possible to implement not only translated labels and buttons, but also translated text on tabs, column headers, window titles and dialogs ?

What do you mean by “include localisation into the product” ?

By the way : I am an experienced FileMaker developer, but I am new to Servoy.

Kind regards,

Try the latest Beta and you can see that (almost) all you need is right there. You just need to punch in the translation…
