OK...I give up!

Developer - I have it open

Can you check in Developer > Preferences > Servoy > Services what http port it’s using.
You can also test the HttpService there.

Hi there, under Servoy I have:

Form Editor
Internationalization
Solution Explorer
Startup
Team Development

Am I looking in the right place?

Ah, you are using 6.0. That version doesn’t have that prefpane anymore.
Did you try restarting developer and such ?

I did yes. Should I be using a different version?

No other than 6.0 is still beta it should still allow you to access the admin page.
I am not sure what’s going on.

SHould I go back to 5?

Sure, try 5.2.

OK, so after lots of help I installed the following way:-

Need enterpriseDB version of postgresql and Servoy 5.2.n (which I didn’t have)

I firstly uninstalled and removed all versions of Servoy I had on my server. Bear in mind that I had tried many times to install/re-install - everything removed

Then installed a clean install of postgresql - no extras (a mistake I made the first time) Remember the username and password used to install

I then made an install of Servoy 5.2.n (I was using the beta version the first time - it did not work in my case)

Ensure that a blank database called (in my case) itg_repository and itg from pgadmin 3

I then went into Servoy Developer - double clicked on the repository server and renamed the database to be itg_repository and added the username and password from the postgres install

I then added the second database (itg in my case) and added the username and password again.

I then shut down Servoy and reopened it

It then brings a message up about reconfiguring the repository, which I clicked yes to and then clicked OK when it had finished its re-config

I then restarted Servoy

In my case port 8080 was in use and so I changed the server.xml to show port 8090 and ensured that Preferences>Servoy>Services reflected that change and tested the service.

I then went into http:\localhost:8080\servoy-admin and changed servoy.application_server.startRepositoryAsTeamProvider: = false

This seems to have got my installation working. How do I test that Servoy server is now working?

Start up Servoy Server and go to the admin pages.

You may want to think about some commercial support for your project. It’s not that your questions are not warranted, it’s just that without some baseline background knowledge areas Servoy (like any technology) has plenty of trip-you-up things. Answering one at a time like this is not very efficient compared to collecting your questions and then covering them during a session with a Servoy guru.

If you have more time than money, you need to commit heavily to searching this forum and documentation and be prepared for a lot of trial and error. Your questions are hardly new and have been addressed many times.

Thank you for your constructive feedback David. It was a bit more involved than suggested, but yes, I have found out how. Mainly by trial and error, and some help from the good folks from the forum - including yourself. Unfortunately, whilst a guru in Filemaker Pro, I am nowhere near that on Servoy. I have to go down the trial and error road - as I do not have pots of money lurking around (at the moment!)

Seems to me that this is the very stuff that should be in a current-version beginner-friendly
set of startup documents provided by Servoy, if it ever expects to get more popular
than simply with database geeks.

Hi there, it is unclear as to what resources are available - I think that Servoy does themselves a mis-service as there are books written by avid Servoyers and indeed Servoy that can help the beginner - it just took a while to find them. I also enrolled in the Servoy University as it helped with a broad range of subjects.

The books I have that helped are:-

The Servoy Beginners Handbook - Adrian McGilly
Servoy Advanced Programming Guide for Filemkaer Developers
Javascript - The Definitive Guide
I have also enrolled on Ken Levy’s javascript webinar (now scheduled for 3rd August)

I hope that this may be of some use to beginners. I have now got the basics and am about 50% through my first project. I have to say that this forum has been invaluable too.
