Servoy Licensing Strategy

Hi,
a question that many people of who we have presented Servoy to asked :

“If I bought a license, do you have any activation process?
or do you restrict this on a certain hostid?
or can I give this license code to my friend so we can use the same license twice?
or can’t we google to find a shared license code?”

And some more forms of the same question, so, can you please answer such question?

In my opinion, I believe that Servoy needs to improve the licensing techniques that should be controlled by the hostid and should consider that the same license could be shared on a clustered/load balanced environment.

And there should be a policy on how to migrate these licenses to a different server(s), and how to track that the old server is not running the migrated license.

IBM Rational Rose, for example, comes with a licensing server application that eases this process.

I hope that Servoy can take a pre-action before I can find a Servoy license spread in the crack/wares/serials/hacks websites.

Good remarks and I am sure Servoy considered all of these.

Up to today I believe their approach was correct.

Which serious company, doing serious business, would consider working with illegal keys.
I hope not my clients…

Working with hostid’s has pro’s and con’s. Pro is that you limit the use to that single host. Con is that you will enter into another discussion with your client because they don’t want to pay for a move.

In other words, all approaches have their issues…

Hi Marcel,

Some of the companies here in the Mid-East region are using even a cracked versions of windows, office, and anti viruses. However, this is illegal, but it is there …

Con is that you will enter into another discussion with your client because they don’t want to pay for a move.

I have mentioned in my post:

I don’t want to see any cracked version of Servoy ever …

Good goal, we would probably have to stop selling Servoy :)

Any response from Servoy team on this ??

Dear Mr. Sabai,

Please contact Mr. Jan Aleman directly.

Thank you.

Hi BDuncan,

I am not in a rush, I just wanted Servoy to confirm that they are aware of this and they have a Business Development plan (as per the forum name  ) to include this on their road map.

However, I’ll try to contact Mr. Jan soon this month to discuss it with him.

Our license agreement is very clear on what is allowed and what isn’t. We don’t have activation schemes like Adobe or Microsoft products as they irritate the user very much and are generally cracked even before used so they are quite pointless.
