What does 'clean import' really mean ?

On the Solutions Import screen there is an option to do a ‘clean import’ - what exactly does that mean ??

Is there nothing in the docs about that?

You can import the version, ‘detached’ and renamed from any possible previous versions in your repository.

I was unable to find a definition in the documentation because the current documentation is out of date (the screenshot doesn’t even show a ‘clean import’ option. I checked with the online docs as well thinking they were more current than what I have and they were not :?

Oddly, this information was there in the 3.5 Dev User Guide:

23.7.2 Importing an existing solution as a new solution
