Servoy scalability

Postby jamezilla » Sun Aug 10, 2003 12:26 am

God forbid I ever have this problem, but how does one scale a Servoy deployment?

Is the only option to scale vertically?

You could scale horizontally by having different clients connect to different app servers (all using the same DB), but is there any way to balance the load? Does the client protocol have any problems going through a load balancer?

You guys should publish an architectural white paper about how the plumbing all works. Like how the client, app server and database all play together.

Currently Servoy only scales vertically, there are plans for horizontal scaling though. To provide horizontal scaling all we need to build is an inter-server component that communicates states, locking and transactions between servers. Keep in mind that Servoy Application Server can handle a huge amount of clients on a single server, depending on the hardware up to 20,000. Rest assured that if you absolutely need the horizontal scaling we will make sure it will be available very soon.

We are in the process of finalizing the Server documentation that will also discuss scaling.
