Servoy stand alone solution

Postby faheemhameed » Wed Sep 10, 2003 11:07 am

Hi there,

I am a Filemaker developer. Just found out about the Servoy in some web forums.
I have read something about Servoy in the web and felt comfortable with it.
I am thinking that in the future we can skip to Servoy.

But I have some questions.

Can I create a stand alone solution in Servoy??
like creating .exe files in Microsoft Visual Basic and creating Runtime Solutions
in Filemaker?? . ( do not want to install any software in the client machine)

Since we have created a product in Filemaker that we may want to re-create it in Servoy
and develop new cross platform applications.

Thanks for you answers in advance.

At this moment Servoy does not support stand alone solutions. There are plans to support this in the future.

Thanks,

I would really love to see that very soon. We have plan to do a runtime solution in Filemaker very soon. If Servoy can do runtime, I would surely develop the solution on it.

We use runtime's a lot for demo's and for the little companies who wants to start small, but wants the abbility to grow!

Runtime's with multiple acces (more than one user) would be nice too!

I't seems we have to get the definition 'runtime' clear first.

Runtime in our opinion is: A servoy client which connects to a database directly instead of server, has no networking capabilities and runs at once from a CD (works from/with readonly medium), which you can ship to end users at no cost (only need to buy 'runtime builder' license)

Dear Jan,

I would like the runtime to be available ASAP. If we can get the runtime now, we would start working on the project now. As I told you that we have created a product in Filemaker. But as a product (not as a project) we are not very happy with filemaker and its restrictions. So if the runtime is available in a month's time we would build this again in Servoy. But also we would like to build any future runtimes in Servoy.

I was not able reply to this thread because I did not receive a notification (I forgot to click the "Notify me" box)

Your definition to the runtime I think is correct.

Please let me know the availability of the Runtime version

Thanks a lot.

Yes I know the understanding of a runtime (like in Filemaker)
What I mean is, the possibility that WE buy a developer-license with limited acces of 2 or 3 clients. And that we can distrubited this to ouer clients at no extra costs. Does the client want more license, than they have to buy the traditional licenses.

4D have a similar license-construction.

P.S. Is there any news, when Servoy-Runtime will be available?

As most other runtime environments our runtime version will most probably be limited to single user use. Omnis, Filemaker and 4D have the same limitation, I believe that with all products there are workarounds to go further than the single user restriction but they don't offer this as a standard functionality.

We are seriously considering to release a Servoy runtime version with the next major Servoy release which is scheduled for this year. Don't be suprised if you see a beta version posted on this forum within a month.

Servoy runtimes

Postby lucidlee » Wed Nov 12, 2003 2:24 am

Will the runtime still be easily updateable in the hands of the user, ie avoiding the dump/load drama that we have with FileMaker?

In Servoy data is strictly separated from design and business rules so this won't be an issue.
