Servoy: A FileMaker Pro killer or another killer app?

Postby Jan Aleman » Tue May 27, 2003 9:22 am

Matt Petrowsky from Iso Magazine has written a very thorough introduction to Servoy through the eyes of an experienced Filemaker Pro developer.

In this initial review of Servoy, a new database application tool from Servoy BV in The Netherlands, I take a look at what this new application means to FileMaker Pro developers and cover the advantages and disadvantages of using Servoy over FileMaker Pro for certain tasks. It has long been desired for FileMaker Pro to "tap into" the remote data that is stored in various SQL database systems. Learn what a "true font end" is and how Servoy offers this feature today. I compare the two environments and expose how they are similar and how they differ.

For us very important review ...

Postby Tony_Adrian » Tue May 27, 2003 2:18 pm

We desire to begin the process of converting our 8 year old FMP solution into a Servoy/Sybase solution. We have a client with over 400 data entry clerks spread over 600 miles in 45 workgroups. This client expects their business (and number of end users) to increase 50% a year for the next two to three years. This review will no doubt assist us in convincing them to stay with us. Once they give us the green light we can jump into this with both feet.

Assuming we do this conversion over the next 12 months we will be searching for experienced FMP -> Servoy folks to assist us with the conversion. This would be on a contract basis.

Jan - Maybe a list for those seeking developers and for developers seeking work might be a good idea?

Hi Tony,

In a few days we'll be announcing the Servoy Developer Program - the Servoy Alliance Network (SAN). Developers can join, be added to the online searchable directory, etc. Watch your email and this forum for details to follow!

Thanks!

Finishing the SAN website is taking a bit more time than we expected, the good news is that so far more than 15 companies have signed up for the SAN program. If you want to join the program even before the announcement and be included in the announcement contact me by email and I will send you details about the program.
