Issue wth fresh 7.4.0 + Browser Suite Installation

Postby mstokoe0990 » Wed May 07, 2014 4:00 pm

I started with a fresh, clean install of Servoy 7.4.0.

Next, I grabbed and installed the latest version of BrowserSuite from ServoyForge.
Image

I installed it over the top of my Servoy 7 install, as I usually would.

Ran Servoy as an administrator, to be on the safe side.

And... No panes...

I've tried loading other views and perpectives but nothing works.
The problem only occurs after a fresh install of Servoy and Browser Suite.

Any help with this issue would be apprectiaed.

Hi Michael,

I've used the BrowserSuite extensively in the past, but I understood it's hard to support it due to all the different OS components.
Depending on where you need the browser suite for, there could be an alternative since Servoy 7 is shipping a JavaFX bean.
There's a ready to go HTML 5 web view component available on github, please see this post for further links: viewtopic.php?f=68&t=20132

I was hoping to get browser suite working in all honesty.

However, I will look into that HTML5 webview component now.

EDIT: I have found that the HTML 5 webview component only works with Java 7 and our clients only support java 6.
If there's any way of getting browser suite to work I'd hugely appreciate it.

The BrowserSuite is Free Open Source Software and mainly maintained by Patrick Talbot. If you want it to also work on Java 7 you have a couple of options:
1) Dive into the Java code and create a fix and provide the project with a patch (or even better become an active project team member and you can commit it yourself).
2) Let Patrick fix it and compensate him for his time with a monetary donation (by you or by a group of people). As you can imagine his time is also very valuable.

I'm sure our clients are fully aware of this. I would update if I could.

Will look into both of these options but I believe you're mistaken. I have no issues running browser suite in-lieu with Java 7.

Browser suite works fine with Servoy 6 and Java 7.
It also works fine with Servoy 7.3.1
But not Servoy 7.4 at all.

There are issues with Java 7 and Mac OS X. But I guess you are using only Windows.
So I guess Servoy 7.4 now also breaks it in Developer. Did you file a bug report on the ServoyForge project yet?

Actually, not yet. Though I'll go do that now. Thanks for the tip!

EDIT: Actually, the issue was submitted around a month ago. https://www.servoyforge.net/issues/799

EDIT2: Direct contact has been made with Patrick about this issue.

Any news about this issue guys? I'm facing the same problem (servoy 7.4.1) and I can't get my other copy of Servoy which is running on 7.3.1 and has the browsersuite working to update to 7.4.1.

The BrowserSuite is no longer officially supported.
The issues with Java 7+, Servoy 7.4 new Eclipse version and SWT bugs are such that I can no longer supply a reliable version for all platforms and all deployments...
I've been helping people to install it on 7.4.1 and made it work in Win 7/8 developer, but I can no longer support OSX for developer (still works in Smart client though).

If all you need is a browser, in Java 7, I'd have a look at the JavaFX WebPanel, and Servoy implementation.

Hi Patrcik,

Thanks for your quick response. It's a shame that you would no longer officially support The BrowserSuite, but I understand were are you coming from with all the different platforms and servoy versions etc. We use The BrowserSuite for displaying and editing HTML content (developing on windows machines running windows 7) and yes that's all we really need if you can take a look to see if you can fix it to work in servoy 7.4.1 and java 7 (As long as we can display and edit html content like we used to do with the bean).

@Patrick: you might want to update the information on the project on ServoyForge with some word on ending support for the Browsersuite, to prevent future confusion.
