Can't install Servoy 1.1 on Windows XP

Postby Bob Shockey » Thu Nov 06, 2003 1:35 am

When I try to Install Servoy 1.1 on a Windows XP laptop (brand new, very little software has been installed on it), I get the message: "Unable to execute the specified command line!" I looked this up on an earlier thread, and the suggestion was to uninstall Java and reinstall. I did that, but the result it the same. The installation of Java is the one recommended in the download area of this site, version 1.4.2. What now?

Is Servoy always thos problematic on install? So far I haven't gotten a clean, properly functioning install on 2 Macs and a Windows box! :(

Well,

I have read your four posts in this Forum. I have been looking for my installer for Java but couldn't find it. Sorry for that (and for this non-information).

Concerning the other three subjects. I can assure you that none of these have occured with any of my installations. I really don't know what happened and have seen clean installs on three OS X macs (10.2.8 and 10.3), on win 2000 and Linux. The last only gives problems with the database but that is my error...

So I am a very happy developer with a fantastic developer tool!!!

Hope this helps you to decide... (sorry that it won't help you to solve the problems since I haven't experienced them).

Did you try install java 1.4.2 SDK?

de-install all java-versions.

download here:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
select: Windows offline installation (so you can use it later on other machines)
and choose the: SDK

(Just to be sure, do a restart after that!)
Than use the windows version of the servoy-setup and try to re-install Servoy!

Good luck!

Yes, this is the version that I am installing. I have installed it 3 times. Is there something I need to remove from somewhere else? From the registry? I'm not really very knowledgeable regarding the registry, but I can edit it if someone tells me where to look. I have no other Java versions installed, except maybe what may have come with Win XP on my notebook. How I would know this or uninstall it is a mystery, though, as I wouldn't have put it there in the first place.

goto registry by typing: regedit

under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JAVASOFT

delete here every entry!

than try a re-install of the Java SDK and than a re-install of Servoy!

Also try to re-download Servoy itself, in some occassions I have seen that a corrupted download would cause this error.

I looked, and there is no such registry entry. I uninstalled and re-installed once again, and no such entry was newly created in the reigistry either. Then I downloaded another copy of Servoy 1.1, and tried to reinstall, with no different result. The error, which occurs right after the install shield wizard starts up with "extracting servoy_installer_windows.jar", is "Servoy [in dialog's title bar]: Unable to execute specified command line!" with an OK button. This is the Servoy Developer 1.1 installer.

This is really strange. If you install Java, there MUST be a registry entry!!
Do you have administrator rights on that machine?

Can you open a client?
http://demo.servoy.com:8080

I did multiple installations, and this error never occured!

Mabey someone can help you get the thing started on MAC (I only know Windows)

This was an excellent suggestion! Installing the web client added whatever component was missing and the Servoy installer is now happily chugging away. Apparently, the j2dk_142 installer, recommended and linked in the download screen on the Servoy site, did not contain all of the necessary bits to make the Servoy installer work. Running the client demo and letting it install Java fixed the problem.

Thanks for your help.
