Questions and answers for all installation-related topics for Servoy products

Wow

Indeed WOW...

Just one hour ago I installed a FireBird database and Servoy on my Linux machine.

Following the instructions of the server manual made it work like a charm! Including internet access.

I was amazed how easy it is to export/import a project. Create the needed db's from an empty FireBird database, import the project and there you go... Nothing to it...

I only have the following question:

- If I have, let's say, 3 different solutions but only want one shown to the client, what do I do then?

Further... THUMBS UP SERVOY! Really great how easy this is. Another marker next to all the other adding to my positive and confident feeling!

Why whould you hide solutions?

Currently there are 2 possiblities
1) If you mail the endusers the url http://localhost:8080/servoy-client/ser ... ?solution=<solutionname> they will never see other solutions than the one specified as parameter
2) change the index.html file in <installdir>\server\webapps\ROOT and list the wanted solutions as said in 1.

I would hide a solution if I have for instance a solution for my own use and one for demo use on the same server...

But, your suggestion will do the trick...

Jan,

Is it possible to start different copies of server on separate ports and then just run one solution on each server?

Yes possible, but seems overkill for this to me ... it also breaks datanotification, if one record is changed by enduser of one server change is not seen by enduser of other server.
We could provide a server setting to make the users login before loading a solution as a result solution could be assinged to security groups. (solutions are hidden for user if not assigned to his group(s))
Or is login unwanted at all?

Jan,

Would that mean that I could make a group demo and a group users etc. where demo wouldn't see the users and the other way round.

If so, that would suite me....

Another aproach could be a way to have a 'remove index.html' setting and use only direct links to a solution...

Both would suite me I guess...

I agree that users login before they load their solutions.

Yup, this would be great! Especially if they log in and the solution assigned to their group automatically starts up if only one solution is available.
