Postby xtrim » Wed Dec 03, 2003 2:29 am

Hi

I heard about servoy , and ofcourse had to try it by myself 8) ...
I d/l the late ver of servoy,installed it (and the firebird)...
but all I get is "Can't connect to the repository server specified in the application preferences"....

Firebird is up and running..
Servoy is installed..
( I even rebooted)
nada...zip....zero..... :x

I really want to see what it's all about....

Is it a bug in the latest version, or something else?

Oke, let's give it a try:

are you sure firebird is up and running??

see under: Services: Firebird Server

try to stop firebird en start firebird again

delete all the tables in c:\Program Files\Servoy\databases
except: empty.gdb

than try to start Servoy Developer

which version of developer are you using?
can start the demo client?: http://demo.servoy.com:8080

if not, you have a Java problem.
Please check this out.

Hi

Platfrom - win 2000 (pro);
Firebird - runing (I tried even ver 1.5);
Servoy client - working fine (no JAVA problem);
Deleted all GDB files (except empy.gdb);

result - same same, no different.... :shock:

What else can I do....

than it has to be the firebird server!
don't try the 1.5 version!!!!!!!!!!!!
this one is not compatible yet with Servoy. the next beta is!
if you de-install Servoy, (also all files and databases) and install Servoy again. check after the install, if there is only one database: empty.gdb
now start the developer, do you get a messageline: preparing Servoy for first time? (at the bottom of the splashscreen)
after that: check if there are more databases now: crm.gdb,user_data.gdb etc.........

Well

I did the following :

I've uninstalled everything. (except Java)
Reboot.
Installed Servoy with Firebird.
demo working.
activated Servoy dev. - same result.
reboot.
activated Servoy dev. - same result.
uninstalled Firebird 1.0.1
installed Firebird 1.0.3
activated Servoy dev. - same result

is it a curse ? :evil:

BTW

I had the following error when I tried to reinstall again (this time clearing also all the relevant registry keys)

"error createservice failed - the specified service already exists. (0x431)"
It specified also the file wrapper.exe.....

maybe installation file corrupt???

Keep in mind that if you get the error above Servoy can't connect to the database server that you have defined in your preferences. If you haven't defined anything in your preferences than by default Servoy will point to a local Firebird server. In both cases the problem is not being caused by Servoy but by the database server and/or your machine.
Probable causes:
-Firebird is not running
-Firebird is not listening for connections on the right port
Can you try the following:
-open a command prompt
-type:
Code: Select all
netstat -a | grep gds

does that return anything?

no it doesn't return anything...

I tried to install and uninstall Firebird sevral times and still
netstat -a | grep gds returned nothing... (but I got a "dgm"...)

what could be the problem?

I had a look in Event Viewer and I saw two things :

the first one is on the servoy service : " OpenService failed - The specified service does not exist as an installed service. (0x424) "

the second one is on the firebird guardian : "The description for Event ID ( 251 ) in Source ( Firebird Guardian ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: Server Started: Guardian starting: D:\Program Files\Firebird\bin\ibserver.exe. "

You can try and understand these errors...but anyways I've been trying to install it for the past two weeks in all the possible ways suggested here in the forum with no actual results.
We all know that WINDOWS could be a pain sometimes...but that is what I am working on , and ofcourse my clients.
And I'm sorry, but I can't waist time on installing a SW...
SO....I'm through with servoy (untill the next version...)....
