Would be nice to be able to create a README txt file for solutions. README would show in solution explorer per solution for any solution that had one and would be editable in eclipse.

Unless I misinterpret what you want, you can already do this.

Simply create the README.txt (New - File) and synchronize the file against the cvs/svn when you work in a team.

Would the README.txt show in the solution explorer?

Good question and I see that it doesn't.

I think it should, like other files that make sense.
