Sure ... I often (if I can use the term "often" being fairly new to Servoy - less than a year!) use a "container" tabpanel for precisely what you describe: a place to put other things that need to be wrapped and contained and easily replicated with definable GUI boundaries and characteristics. I suppose one can always use a "junk" form that has no other purpose in life except to form a required foundation for tabpanels (this is what I do if building reusable "widgets" that would house, for instance, a number of abstracted control and navigation objects).

But, I agree: I have, at times, wondered why one needs to bind to a form if there is no intention to use it as a form container. I would second this concept if it doesn't create a domino-effect upon other functionality or a huge amount of re-engineering time.

Just to make sure I understand what you want:
You want to be able to create a group of elements that you can hide/show and move all at once, preferably with 1 line of code. Currently, to do this, you need to place the group of elements on a separate form, that you then place in a tabless tabpanel and control them through hiding/showing/moving the tabpanel, right?
What is the reason you also place single portals into a tabPanel? What extra's does that give you compared to just placing the portals on the main form?
Currently, you have to define a form as a container for the GUI of your widget and then on the form you can define all the behavior.
do you have a set of buttons? Place them in a tab. If you have another set, you can place 'em in another tab and switch between them with a line of code.
Michael Mooney wrote:ps, Ric: I had the same questions that Paul did regarding the 5 portals. Would not the "statistic informations" require some degree of database access?
