I have an application from version 5 which used the google map, just tested and all ok.

I then import the app into version 8 and the google map does not display. I downloaded the latest web client utils plugin from here https://www.servoyforge.net/projects/we ... tils/files

see Servoy wiki although the link on the page does not show the sample:

https://wiki.servoy.com/display/samples/Google+Maps

Any ideas as to what else I can do?

In what client are you testing this? Servoy 8 introduced a completely different browser based client called the ng client. The google maps implementation for the non ng client technologies will not work in ng client and have to be replaced by ng client specific components.

I have this issue also, in web client rather than ng client - where in Servoy 5 I was displaying a static google map in an html area, in Servoy 8 it does not display unless I also make the html area editable (which I don't want). I was simply setting the html area with the google map string (which works fine when simply pasted in the url field in a browser).

Please try the google maps web component for Servoy NG Client. No code required. You can install it from the "web package manager"
https://github.com/Servoy/svyGMaps/wiki

You can see a quick demo of the map in action here:
