It was nice seeing the demo, and actually see things working from a real Servoy environment (other than the sneak previews we've seen on ServoyWorld '12)

Still a question:
* Servoy Mobile will be able to work 'offline' and then should use UUID's.
Will it also be possible to target an online client still using servoy sequences/db idents?

Another question which popped into my head, as I work for ISV's having their solutions on-premise.

From the demo I took that you'll need to specify the server to which the servoy mobile app is going to connect.
Let's say they have 25 on-premise solutions, would this mean you need to distribute 25 different apps?
Or could specifying the server URL be a setting of the app?

I asked the same question during the session, but Paul told me it was only possible with UUID's

This will be for us a HUGE drawback, because, we can't build mobile than for our existing solutions!

and yes, setting the URL of the app, should be something we can script inside the solution!

Excellent points. Keep them coming and make sure to get in the early adopter program so you can start using it soon. We are processing the recording and hope to have it up later today.

Believe me, this will be a nightmare...
quote from Bob:
Now, what if you want to convert a solution that exists - that's using the "traditional" integer keys? My suggestion: don't.

I am testing a kind of conversion solution, that I got from somebody, no info about that.... keep my fingers crossed.. ;-)

This depends on how you used al the keys.
If Servoy foundset objects handle your queries (so: without custom queries). You should be fine by just converting existing integer columns to varchar columns and make Servoy fill in the UUID's
Existing data should still work on your existing relations. (just don't mark your columns as UUID column in Servoy, because then Servoy will try to convert a value to a UUID object)

However when you use custom queries and DID NOT use prepared statements, you have some more work to do.

One other point that wasn't discussed is the way you can deploy updates of your solution.
Are you required to actively redownload the new solution and remove the old one or can this be (semi) automatic?
Perhaps this also depends on the mobile platform it runs on...

As these are going to be native apps, I assume the update methodology of the mobile platform will work here.

about that "problem" for new records..
the servoy mobile will always generate uuid's when creating a new record, we can't do anything else
But that doesn't mean that your datamodel needs that...

Because new records are being POST to the mobile webservice solution. then what you do there is replace the generated UUID's (also related) by the normal datamodel id's

In mobile it is important that you don't use the pk as visible data.. This is just a row identifier, because we can have UUIDS for new records and just normal pk's for records from the server.
