Create column view like MacOS Finder?

I want to create a hierarchical explorer like MacOS's column view in Finder (see screenshot)

This is so that I can have hierarchical checklists, with items changing colour as each check / sub-check is completed.

Do I need to create this from scratch using JavaScript / HTML or is there a leg-up available that anyone knows of?
