Hello,

has anyone tested J2SE 5.0 (which should be called J2SE 1.5?!) which is out since October 5th? Is it recommended/not recommended by Servoy?

Thanks
Patrick

Not on Mac if that is what you mean. Apple hasn't officially announced 1.5 so we can't comment on the behaviour on Mac at the moment.

Hmmm... didn't work for me :-(

More specifically, I installed on Debian from jre-1_5_0-linux-i586.bin and tried to run servoy developer "2.0.4 build-277" - all it did was say: "Invalid or corrupt jarfile /usr/local/servoy/servoy_developer.jar"

Two datapoints:
* servoy still runs OK with Java 1.4.2_03
* The jbarcodebean Demo.jar runs OK with jre-1_5_0

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Neale.

Do you also get that with a fresh Servoy install of 2.1?

Good question - I'll try to test that tomorrow.

Can I assume that it shouldn't matter if I do the 2.1 install before the Java upgrade?

Thanks,
Neale.

The order doesn't matter. We found that in some cases java 1.5 doesn't like jar files created with older versions of java. The problem shouldn't occurr with Servoy 2.1.

Maybe it is a good idea to make a new forum in "Servoy Latest & Greatest" called "Best Configurations".

Here we will see the best versions for all platforms and releases, like:

Windows XP:
Servoy 2.1
Java x.xx
Sybase x.xx

Mac OSX:
Servoy 2.1
Java x.xx
Sybase x.xx

...and so on...

What do you think?

Best regards,
Stef

For Servoy: always uses the latest and greatest versions unless we specify otherwise. So in pratice: if a new version of java is released wait a week or so so we have tested it thoroughly before you start installing it. Additionally use my first rule of Computer Science: Never upgrade a working system.

Confirmed: last week I had the need to reinstall a 2.0.4 on a Mac with Java 1.4.05 and I got the "corrupted jar" message.
Luckily, the system accepted to launch the developer using the Servoy.app, so I got the job done :-)
