Selecting multiple objects frustrating

Postby lalong » Sun Mar 27, 2011 6:09 pm

Currently in order to select multiple objects you have to encompass the entire object(s) within the selection area box. This is very time consuming in that you need to ensure that you completely envelope the objects you want selected. In VFP, any object touched by the selection area is included. Is this something that can be adjusted?

Thanks

Agree. I'm pretty sure "touching" objects was actually there in one of servoy's previous versions

lalong,

This is something we could address in Servoy 6, to have the lasso-select behaviour configurable in the user preferences.

Please file a feature request in the Servoy support system http://crm.servoy.com/servoy-webclient/ ... oy_support

And if you're objects are against the top or left form edge there is no way to lasso them...and if you have stacked objects lassoing them only selects the top object...Servoy 1 through 3 was much easier to build forms with.

There is a lot of love being shown the form editor in Servoy 6.

Hi David,

Have you tested these things in Servoy 6 after reading the Release Notes on the wiki?

Ok, so both issues you mention ought to be solved in 6 already:
- Shift-lasso select solves the issue of selecting layered elements
- The offset of the form within the editor should solve the selection of elements near the left or upper edge of the form.

Are you seeing something different?

Ah, disconnect. I assumed OP was using Servoy 5.2.6. Yes, these do work in Servoy 6...one of the first things I tried :)

PLEASE change the current behaviour of the mouse "Lasso" in Servoy 5, back to they way it was in Servoy 4.
It's completely useless and drives you nuts when dragging around objects in a form now.

I remember that "at least":
- Touching objects with the mouse pointer would select them right away. No need to completely "surround them with the dotted selecting box.
- Form would scroll down together with the mouse pointer when trying to reach for an object that's located outside the screen view. Right now it doesn't do ANYTHING.

Also:
The mouse pointer has to stay within the visible part of the editor, or it will not select anything at all ???
- When I click on a large object that's not completely fitting in the editor screen, it will start scrolling up by itself. (WT.??)

Thanks Rob,
I know 6 is better but I stilll need to develop a lot on 5.
Any chance 5 can be improved on this subject?

btw: Sorry if my prev post was a bit jagged.

The enhancements of Servoy 6 will not be backported to Servoy 5, as they are too extensive.

Better to upgrade to Servoy 6, so you can enjoy all the improvements made.
