2020.9 File Search Goes Into Repository

Can I stop searches into the repo?
Was doing a search/replace action and touched the local .git repo without realizing it. This totally munged what the Team Synchronize expected, so a manual push might be necessary to re-synch properly.
Don't use git much but when It doesn't behave, it's a pain.
