New Intelligent IDE for DBAs and SQL Developers

Postby mboegem » Wed Jun 18, 2014 11:22 pm

Hi everyone,

if you're looking for a good IDE to manage your databases (and even if you don't), you should checkout this:
http://www.jetbrains.com/dbe/

Apart from the unpronounceable name '0xDBE' this tool has the potential of a 'must have' status.
Although it's still in beta with a release ETA of 'later this year', you can check it out by subscribing to the 'Early Access Program'
Connecting to your existing databases shouldn't be hard, as it uses JDBC drivers and you can copy/paste your Servoy JDBC connection string.

Have fun!

Marc, thanks for sharing this info. To us it would be interesting to see what this tool can do better/easier than Sybase Central. It sure looks promising. Do you already can/like to share your first impressions with the tool. What are the strengths, what the weaknesses?
Thanks and regards, Robert

Thanks for sharing the info about this product.

What makes this tool standout among other tools? I've been using toad products for years. I have found that they are really good products until now. I use Toad for MySQL almost daily.

I think that Toad products only work in windows computers. Aside from that, I wonder what would make OxDBE different or better?

Best.

I can't answer your questions specifically, as everyone has his/her own needs an behaviour using a DB-IDE.

A couple of things I really like/need:
- cross platform/cross vendor connectivity, as I work on different projects, using different database products
- it's pretty fast
- outstanding auto-completion (fast, smart, supporting different dialects depending on the db-connection)
- easyness of grabbing data in most common formats

Like I said, I'm enthusiastic about this tool, but please judge for yourself.
The tool is in beta, but already good to use.
Now is your chance to play around with it and file any issues/missing features you encounter.
