Sybase iAnyWhere V9 - Opinions Please

Postby Tony_Adrian » Tue Jul 08, 2003 2:02 pm

Hello Jan (Aleman),

Sybase has released version 9.0 of iAnyWhere - their SQL database designed for workgroup and roaming users (including palm type devices). One of the main features of this Sybase product has been the ability to synchronize databases in a number of different ways. Under version 8 the synch features had to be initiated by the client. I read that the new release has now implemented server-side initiation of synchronization/replication as well as retaining client-side initiation.

While in San Francisco at the WWDC did you get a feel for this release's stability and compatability with Servoy? Would you stick with development in V8 and convert to V9 after a few months?

Thank you,

Tony :?:

My feeling is that version 9 of iAnywhere will be pretty solid. The good news is that for Servoy it doesnt really matter if you deploy on 8 or 9. You will probably have to make minor adjustments to your synchronisazation scripts between 8 and 9 but other than that it will be very easy to switch between the two. This basicly means that you dont have to decide now which version to use in production until about 2-3 weeks before actually going into production in which thorough testing can point out if version 9 is ready for prime time.
