Client Server Comms tutorial

I was wondering if there is any material on client server communication that shows explicitly how either the UDP or the rest_ws plugin works? I know there is some information in the wiki but its not really a demonstration.

I saw there was a Simple Chat solution available. That may have been useful, but there is no link to it anymore?
