Solution not starting in Smart Client in specific XP profile

Hi all,

I was at a client's site yesterday, and he had previously launched my solution (while it was in alpha) on his Windows XP box. However, I noticed that he had an older (1.5) version of Java, so I updated it on his machine. So far so good.

However, when I tried to relaunch the solution using the desktop shortcut, Servoy Smart Client launched, but it hanged at the message 'Start repository' in the lower left corner of the window. I don't even get to the login screen - it just sits there doing nothing...

So I went along and did the following things, based on the instructions I found on the Forum:

- Stopped Servoy Smart Client
- Flushed the Java cache several times using the Control Panel app and deleted the Java applications and resources from that panel
- Deleted the .servoy folder from the user's Documents and Settings folder
- Restarted the machine several times

Unfortunately, all these efforts did not allow me to solve my problem. :(

To convince myself of what was going on, I created a new User Profile (admin account) in WinXP - there the solution launched witout a hitch the first time (and all subsequent times)! :?

Can anyone point me to a way to resolve this situation? My client will not want to switch to another profile just to use his solution...

Thanks in advance,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Did you re-download the client (via a webbrowser) instead of clicking the shortcut ?

Yes, after flushing everything - no go.

I have seen this before!

What I did, was first completly remove all java version, and than downloaded a fresh java 1.5 install.

That worked for me!

Thanks Robert and Harjo,

Unfortunately, (I forgot to mention that) I did that already, but still no cigar...

Any other clue? Is there something I can copy over from the working XP profile to the one that isn't working (without affecting it in a bad way, of course)?

Ben

hmm, check the Java control-panel and see what the network setttings are.

Are they on: Direct Connection??

I'm not there now, but I don't think so - should it be?

Now I remember - it was defined with the first option ('Use browser settings'). Is this the only area I should check to make it work? The reason I ask is that this 'Browser' setting is the one I have on my own PC, and it works... :?

Ben,

Using Direct Connection will make sure no other layer of complexity is added (since we are searching for the problem) but I am sure using browser settings will work too.
Also did you made sure that no firewall is blocking the connection?

Thanks for trouble-shooting this with me, guys!

Like I said before, the solution did work in alpha previous to my updating Java, so that's why I'm a little stumped here (to say the least). And the problem doesn't lie with that particular solution either - no other solution will load on that profile...

Just wanted to post back and thank you guys for your help - 'Direct Connection' did the trick! :P

Cheers,
