Can't start Rich Client 2.2.8: Can't load java cache

Postby Eric Mulder » Fri May 30, 2008 5:27 pm

Hi there,

I have since a few days a problem with the downloading and installing of a new client.

I deleted the java cache through the Java preferences app, and deleted the .servoy file in my home directory

I get the following error:

An error occurred while launching/running the application.

Category: Invalid Argument Error

Could not load file/URL specified: file://localhost/Users/admin/Library/Ca ... lient.jnlp

A client from me has the samen error, he's on a xp machine. It has nothing to do with the server, since other computers do work. And I get the same error when I try to download a client from http://localhost:8080/

When I download and start the jnlp file, it doesn't create the files in the Java cache directory.

I use java 1.4.2 and am on a mac (10.5.3), my client uses java 10.4.2 and is on a xp.

It almost sounds like this is a 1.4.2 issue since both of you use that.
Have you tried using Java 5 (on XP) and see if that solves your issue ?

Hope this helps.

You do realize that support for 2.2.x ends by the end of June (just a heads up)?

Have you tried clearing cache of the browser.
There is no need for it with current version but I do know of certain versions/combinations that remarkably came to life after browser cache was cleared...

Find a kind of a solution...

I created the file myself, used the jnlp file from my downloads en renamed it, and added folders to:

file://localhost/Users/admin/Library/Ca ... lient.jnlp

And that worked... And after that it also created other jnlp files in the same directory... It seems that it doesn't have the permission to create directories or something like that.

Could be that you are going to bump into issues over and over when something changes.

Why don't you test that it really has to do with user rights.
Should be easier/better to solve it on that end.

Can't find an error in the console about rights or something like that though... Do you know how I can see where things go wrong?

Hi Eric,

I have seen this problem on laptops, both Windows XP and Mac OS X, Servoy 3.0 and 3.5.5, Java 1.5 and Java 6.

You load a client in one location, typically in a hotel, possibly connected to the internet via some proxy server. It works fine. You try using the client again from some other location and it fails.

A client went on a sales trip to the Caribbean. In the middle of the trip Servoy client failed to load. When he came back we discovered the name of a some ISP embedded within the launch url.

To get it going again I think you need to clear out the cache, delete the jnlp file or repair the link.
