Servoy Forum

I'm trying to give a demo of a small servoy app to an important
potential client.

He can get connected to my server, get the app to start,
but he's getting the "bean missing" message in the application
window.

I've tried putting the bean in various places on his machine,
but with no luck.

configuration info:
client is running windows 98
server is running under mac os-x 10.3.2

also: mac clients CAN run the app, after placing the bean
in the same folder as the .jpnl file on the client machine.

help would be very much appreciated.

I think this is related to a bug, which will be solved in the next beta, scheduled to come out this week (according to posts by Servoy people on this forum)

I just downloaded "R2 2.0 beta6-build 260" and still no luck.

The client machine, windows 98, shows the "bean missing"
message where the chart bean should be.

My client is not impressed, which is too bad, as they're starting
a new project this month and servoy would be perfect for the
job, if this demo worked.

We are doing our very best every day to improve Servoy where we can.

The "bean missing" issue is a very difficult bug to solve, as it seems
to appear in a very random way.
Also keep in mind that the chart bean that ships with Servoy is an unsupported freeware bean by Alphaworks. There are also a lot of commercial beans out there that are probably more stable.
If this turns out to be the issue, we will definitely drop this bean from our installer package).
For the time being, we'll keep assuming it's a Servoy issue, and we'll keep on searching for the reason of this bug.

One last note:
Does the decision of your customer really comes down to this bug.
(I imagine there are a lot of other features that speak in favor of Servoy)

If there's anything we can do to convince your customer, let us know!

The bugfix regarding beans did solve the "Bean Missing" in my case, both after restarting develloper as in the Client. (I implemented the JSPlitPane bean)

Are all the clients that connects to that server saying "bean missing"?

actually, no, it's just that I had a nifty demo prepared to
show him, that used the chart bean. I'm in the process of
preparing a different demo, that's very specific to what this
client wants to do, and I think he's going to be very pleased
when he sees it.

I've already informed him of your excellent record of responding
to questions on this forum. I find that very impressive. I'm also
quite impressed with Servoy, and recommending it to another
client who's been using FileMaker for years, and has outgrown
it's capabilities.
