Connection problems with Verizon wireless cards

Postby grahamg » Sat Aug 20, 2005 10:26 am

Have a client travelling around US and linking to hosted db in UK using variety of Hotel wired/wireless connections without problem.

However, in order to remain connected during Trade Shows they have signed up to Verizon BroadbandAccess using EVDO (Evolution Data Only,Evolution Data Optimized). Although they are getting a good signal & can access Email/Internet have been unable to connect to Servoy.

They are reaching our Servoy Server & selecting the solution required (we have multiple solutions in test) but after a delay get messages "you are
dissconnected from server etc." and also "Warning no licences or trial licences left, exiting" As soon as they return to Hotel can connect without problem.

Client is on Mac OSX 10.3.

Advice/suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

Customer using OSX 10.3 Powerbook with Verizon Airprime CDMA Wireless card.

One week on from initial post and an update on this in case anyone has suggestions:

Client connects to hosted Servoy solution without problem using Hotel/Starbucks WiFi connections.

Can connect to web & emails using the Verizon wireless broadband card - BUT unable to connect to Servoy. Gets a variety of error messages "Max licences reached ...", "Could not register client..." and multiple popup boxes with "Disconnected trying to reconnect" with new ones appearing every 10-15 seconds. Force quit is the only way to stop.

Server Stacktrace log has 21 instances of " java.rmi.NoSuchObjectException: no such object in table...."
then 7 lots of "java.rmi.ConnectException: Connection refused to host: 70.218.1.169; nested exception is:
java.net.ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect ....."

During week customer has also being trying to connect to demo.servoy without success although today they got through after about 3-4 minutes of the spinning Servoy icon and Servoys system worked OK. Tried immediately to get through to our own system but same problems.

One further clue is that when the 'Select Solution' box appears they are unable to change the selection.

Verizon support said that if the card connects to the web its fine - problem is with your database - have a nice day.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Can it be that this has something to do with the speed of the connection (just guessing here) since I see a couple of time outs in your first post and your second.

Slow connection speed was my initial assumption but I have tested using a dial-up connection and today they were able to connect to the Servoy demo solution using the Verizon card - albeit very slowly.

Since the solution log-in screen only has a couple of global fields and a 4kb graphic even a slow connection should cope - but they never get this far.

Thanks for suggestion.

If there's a firewall in the way which blocks 1099, then you could be hosed :(
If the 2-way socket is running, then it shouldn't be a problem, but.... ?

Two way socket is enabled and my understanding is that this should avoid firewall/NAT router problems.

Researching further I discovered that " java.rmi.NoSuchObjectException: no such object in table...." refers to the RMI table - not one of my DB's - and indicates that an object is missing.

Trying to understand some of seriously geeky stuff I read it does seem to indicate that the connection is so slow that the Client had lost the connection before the Server could complete the handshake process. But since I was only understanding about 5% of the chat on the Java talk lists I'm probably completely wrong :?
