Can a client's timezone be set programmatically?

Postby SteveInLA » Sat Sep 15, 2007 12:15 am

I would like it if the datetime stored in my MS SQL table would display the same regardless of the client's timezone. As it is, Servoy compares the Servoy server's default timezone to the client's timezone and offsets the displayed date and time accordingly. If I could fix the client's timezone to be the same as the server's timezone, this would solve my problem.

Here is my scenario:
We have devices that collect data with datetime info in the device's timezone. At night, the devices upload their data to our SQL server, where the datetime values are stored with no timezone reference. Our server's default is the Pacific timezone. When a client in the Eastern timezone looks at the data in the Servoy solution, the datetime information is offset by +3 hours. At this point, changing our devices to record datetime in GMT or some other common timezone will require more programming hours than we can afford to spend.

Wouldn't it be better to store the complete datetime including timezone information.

Or otherwise you could use the tableEvents/validator to change the date...
