Java on Mac OS X El Capitan

Q&A regarding installation and issues getting started with Servoy

Java on Mac OS X El Capitan

Postby tgs » Tue Nov 03, 2015 12:48 pm

I could not install Java jdk.1.8.0_66 on a clean installed Mac OS X 10.11.1 (El Capitan) because of a feature in OS X 10.11: System Integrity Protection.

To get the Java install work, I first had to disable the csrutil.

Does anybody else have the same issue?

I'm running an updated to El Capitan OS X and installing jdk 1.8.0_66 from the dmg worked fine.

The oracle installer from the .dmg file should install in /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines. That folder is not protected by the SIP, only /System, /bin, /sbin and /usr should be protected (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/System_In ... Protection).
What error do you get? Maybe it tries to create some links in one of the protected folders...

I doesn't took a look in to the Console.app for an error.
It simple doesn't run the Java installer.

Is the "Allow apps downloaded from anywhere" setting on?

I have a clean install of El Capitan on a brand new iMac and have just finished setting up my Servoy environment. I used version 1.8.0_65 from the Oracle site which installed with no issues and running the update utility from the control panel says this is the latest version available. However if I go to the Oracle download page at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html I can see that there is both 8u65 and 8u66 available!

Were you getting any sort of error message?

I have Servoy 7.4.4 running fine on Mac OS X 10.11.1 (Java 1.8.0_60 which I probably installed while on 10.10 Yosemite).
No issues to report.

The probably cause of these different experiences is that when you install the JDK you don't see this issue and when you install the JRE you do.
