problem with security on clients

Postby Harjo » Mon Jun 16, 2003 11:33 am

I have strange problem with the security on the clients.

I have a solution with security, so the users have to login with username and password. The first time that the user login, everything is working fine!. The second time the user login, the password-field in gone!! So I can't login properly! I have to close down the client, go to the Java Web Start, delete every solution there, restart the client, and then the password field is visible. The next time I restart the client, the password field is gone again. And I have to repeat above steps.

The strange thing is, that if I change the SKIN to: Windows, (on the client) the problem doesn't occur! (the problem occurs in the skin: KunstoffLookAndFeel)
The SKIN: KunstoffLookAndFeel is used by default when starting the client for the first time.

Is there something to do about it?

BTW: Servoy Version R2 1.1 rc2-build 257 Java: 1.4.1_03

to be sure what we see here.

Normally you see a dialog where the username en password labels and fields are shown.

And the second time you only see the username label en the text entry field?
The password label and the text field are gone??

Hope this helps.

Hi HJK,

I too have the same problem...
but I just increased the RAM of my machine and it works fine....
I think it reduced the frequency....
still some times its showing the same... all I do is just close the client and restart it.... lol... (simple solution right... cool.. just kidding....)
Thanks & Regards

I think it has nothting to do with the amount of RAM.
All my clients have 512MB RAM. I believe that is enough!

I have got the same problem too!!

Because the clients use (the first time) by default SKIN: KunstoffLookAndFeel. So they can't have access!

Is there any solution already??

This bug is mentioned a few times, but never acknowledged.
Is there a solution?

It is noted as issue, there is no workaround at this point in time (we are currently unable to reproduce the problem on any of our PC's, but still investigating)

To reproduce is (for me) very simple

BTW using Windows XP Prof (Intel PIV-2GHz) Servoy RC3 Java 1.4.1-03

For example open the CRM solution. Be sure to use the SKIN: KunstoffLookAndFeel. If not select it en start the CRM again.
Go to the security and add a user and select: Solution required.
Restart the CRM and login.

Now type in your browser (on the same machine) http://localhost:8080 and try to login. Be sure that the client is also using SKINL KunstoffLookAndFeel. if not select it en restart the client.
The first time the password field is showing right. Try to restart and login again , than the password field is gone!
If you delete all applications en cache in de JAVA webstart, than the first time login is right again! next time after that the field is gone again.

Hope this helps

i couldn't reproduce it on my end, but i have checked all the code that is used in that section and i think i found one or two problems that could trigger this bug.

I rewrote that code so please check it in the next release/build. (after RC4)

Hello, I am back from vacation en back on track with Servoy!
Now I am trying to reproduce (with RC5) the issue that the password-field dissapears. Now it does'nt dissapear on the clients, but my solution won't load at all!!! See attachment file!
I am trying this on the same machine: http://localhost:8080 with the CRM
Only if I de-select the option: Solution login required, the client will start.
I did a complete reinstall, to be sure, that I had a clean install, but the problem still occurs when I add users the to security-system and select: Solution login required. THe issue is not solved yet :(

I have updated my java from 1.4.1_03 to the new 1.4.2 and the problem is gone! The clients can login!

I did a complete re-install (complete java and servoy) back to java 1.4.1_03 and the above problems are back.

Servoy must be working correctly under 1.4.1_03??
because 1.4.2 is still in beta!

1.4.2 is not beta anymore! It is released now so it is perfectly usable (and when you use WinXP i recommend it highly!!)

But of course it should also work under 1.4.1

Can you set logging on in webstart?
(open the webstart console with programfiles->Java webstart)

and then in file->preferences in the advanced tab you can set the logging.
select show console and log to a file.

Please email me the things you get there.
