tools for building web-interface

Postby Harjo » Thu Dec 11, 2003 5:35 pm

Does anybody know which (quick and easy) tools can be used, for making webpages that make uses databases: Firebird, sybase, mysql, etc..
I did some research in php, but this is mostly done by typing the code in a text-editor.
a wysiwyg-editor would be preferable.

Any help/issues/ideas would be helpfull.

Check out GoLive or Dreamweaver. Either program will allow you to make a database connection (basically just like Servoy) and then place fields from this database connection onto an HTML page. Of course a lot more is involved with getting the data from the database onto the html page when a user requests the page and both programs have wizards to easily build the code necessary for many standard types of database access (new record, search, return a hit list, drill down to a detail record, delete a record, etc.). These wizards will generate PHP, ASP, JSP (I think) and in the case of Dreamweaver: Cold Fusion code for you right out of the box.

Blueworld sell a very decent plugin to both programs that generates lasso code. Their GoLive plugin is particularly powerful and easy to use for people who don't want to have to deal with hand coding.

Hai HJK,

PHP is doable. It is just a way of working. To work wysiwig with PHP check out Zend Studio 3.0...

Coldfusion?

Postby gensolo » Fri Aug 27, 2004 11:01 pm

You may want to check out Coldfusion. It has a very easy way to display your information from a DB on the web (any DB). Also, it's part of dreamweaver. The only real negative is that you have to purchase the server and set it up. If you use ASP (ADO) it's part of your IIS package. Good luck!
