How to configure servoy default field height

Postby dfernandez » Mon Jul 25, 2016 3:08 am

Hi,

When I create a form and include some fields, they are created with height 20. What should I do to configure 30 for the height as default?

Supporting that idea, would also like to configure defaults for common objects like fields, check- and radio-boxes, buttons, ...

To make it perfect, it would be great if one could set up three default heights:
- for labels and fields in detail forms
- for labels (=headers) in table forms
- for fields (=rows) in table forms

To make this run, one would have to adjust the form property "view" regarding detail/table before adding fields.

Additionally, a default for the label and field style classes would be great, also differing for detail and table forms.

Both would speed up form development considerably.

Hi,

You could use templates,

I think when working with templates, you can not use the wizard functionality for adding several fields at once, which saves you much work regarding the data provider and name properties.

Exactly Bernd,

Other tool we use let you set the properties for each type of control for project or global use. So, you can invest some time to define your standard and save the properties for form and controls and then every time you create or ad a control, those properties are applied, including css classes.

Servoy´s wizard to create forms is fantastic, but need to be improved to support more modern UIs, in particular the size.

I also see some more improvement possibilities for the field adding wizard. For example, the i18n-text-property of labels could be generated automatically, e.g. with the rule "i18n:" + <fixedPattern> + labelFor-Property (labelFor-Property would be identical to the dataprovider of the associated field). That would save a lot of work regarding i18n.

Additionally, it would be really smart if the wizard would set the field width according to the field type. For example, if the wizard would set a date field, it could set a predefined width where the date would fit nicely. Or a text field width could be set according to the number of characters.

I dream also of the ability to tell the form wizard the order of the fields that I want to set on the form, so that I do not have to move all the fields around manually.
For example for the usual address fields of business partners:
1. bp_name
2. bp_street
3. bp_zipcode
4. bp_city
...

When making the form wizard that smart, new forms could be created in less than half of the time that is needed currently.

Sounds like some nice ideas to improve the product. Would any of you voters create a case for this?
