Firefox createShortcut leaves character data

When pressing a function key while present in an text input field, the createShortcut leaves a residual character (7.4.8 ) in the field.

This is in the web client. Smart client fares well.

Any ideas on clearing this character? I've attempted to leave the field and return, but it might be before the function key is intercepted.
