Servoy JavaScript Bridge

Postby kirans » Sat Jun 09, 2012 12:20 pm

The ServoyWorld Conference 2012 at Amsterdam was truly a great learning experience for all of us who attended it. Not only did it broaden our knowledge horizon, it also helped us to gauge the direction where the Servoy community is heading. Mindfire Solutions was one of the booth sponsors at the conference and had come up with a brand new solution; a technique called the Servoy-JavaScript Bridge. It definitely piqued the interests of the guests at the ServoyWorld Conference when they saw the innovation from Mindfire Solutions - a gate to the world of JavaScript.

Leveraging on the power of Servoy Browser Bean, we would, hereby, like to demonstrate a glimpse of how the JavaScript world can be triggered from Servoy. Here, we have established the back and forth communication between Servoy and JavaScript, which works on both smart client as well as the web client. All these examples are based on the OpenSource JavaScript utilities/plugins that are available on the web.

We believe, with this extended knowledge, the Servoy developers will now have more space to think and deliver better solutions.

To know more about this technique log on to http://www.mindfiresolutions.com/Servoy ... Bridge.htm.

Hi Kiran,

When you talk about a bridge between Servoy and JavaScript that's a bit confusing since JavaScript is the native language for Servoy. Maybe you can tell us a little bit more about what your developers have built and why this wasn't possible before? Thanks.

Hi Omar

Yes you are right that JavaScript is the native language for Servoy. Servoy-JavaScript Bridge may be looking little confusing, but that just a name. Let me share the usage here.

This technique will help you to integrate any JavaScirpt libraries with Servoy, which will work on both smart and web client. We have just discovered a way to exchange data (back and forth) between Servoy and External JavaScript/HTML. This will help you to use any JavaScript libraries you wish, such as JQuery, Prototype, ExtJS, etc. As a developer you can go through the examples we have shared, which will help you to integrate required libraries to your solution.

Note, we aren't claiming that we have invented something which was not possible before :), we have just discovered the technique, while working on one of the project and thought of sharing the same with community.

I hope, this answer your questions below.

Thanks
