Affordable and Scalable Servoy Hosting

We’ve been working hard over the past year to figure out a way to offer affordable, yet scalable Servoy Hosting. Many of you are aware of some of the existing services out there, however most start at at least $100 per month (Amazon cloud, and Servoy dedicated hosting providers). However, this can be expensive if you just want to start off with a small app, or want a cheap development or staging server environment. Those other options also add other complexities like managing the Operating system itself, along with any required java updates. So, today, we are announcing our new Servoy Hosting service, Servoy Box. We are starting it out in beta, and will provide beta users with a discount on pricing during the beta period. Future website and signup info will be released soon. Server and Pricing info below:

  • Servoy Box is built on Linux-VServer technology. This means a single linux kernel instance is running, and each hosting customer will get their own protected CPU and memory. We’ve partnered with a large data center to provide the hardware and bandwidth. We manage the operating system and database server. Each instance gets its own Servoy Application Sever instance preinstalled, and you can manage and modify it as you need.
  • Each Servoy Box instance starts at 300 MB and goes up up to 4GB of protected memory, dedicated to your Servoy Application Server.
  • The Database Server runs on a separate shared server. Separate dedicated database environment is also available. Currently only MySQL is supported. Contact us if you need a different database server.
  • Pricing starts at $50 per month for 300 MB of RAM (just for your Servoy App Server)
  • Additional RAM available at $10 per 100 MB
  • Bandwidth is unmetered/unlimited

FAQ
Q; How many clients can 300 MB support?
A; The answer partially depends on your solution and deployment. For a Smart Client, each client uses 200K of RAM. For a Web Client, each client uses 2MB. You must also add in the additional solution memory (depending on size of solution which you can view in rich client memory monitory) which us usually 10MB - xxMB. You would also need to factor in any additional server side processing that happens in your solution like headless clients or batch processors. Since Servoy Box uses Linux-VServer technology, the entire 300 MB is dedicated to your individual processes. So, if your only running the Servoy App Server on your instance, then the entire 300 MB is dedicated to your Servoy server.

Q; Will I get my own Application Server, and how do I configure it?
A; You will get your own application server instance dedicated to your solution. You can choose the Servoy version, and install any plugins, beans, or SSL certificates that you need. You will have access to the Servoy Admin web page, as well as FTP access to your servoy installation. For the database, you will get admin rights to your individual database schemas.

Q; How do I sign up?
A; Contact me at: scott@itechprofessionals.com to enroll in beta program or get more information.

This looks like a great addition to the Server community Scott and one that will be very attractive for a lot of new deployments. :)

Q. Where are your servers based (we operate from UK but will have clients from UK, Europe, Middle East and potentially Trinidad & Tobago) :?:
Q. Will you be offering MS SQL Server any time soon (demanded by our on-premises clients therefore sensible for all our deployments) and how will that affect pricing if so :?:

In any case we wish you the very best of luck with this endeavour and the ServoyU operation. Its great to see these moving forward.

Cheers

Ian

Thanks Ian.

Q. Where are your servers based (we operate from UK but will have clients from UK, Europe, Middle East and potentially Trinidad & Tobago)

Our servers are in a private cloud in the US, so unfortunately it wouldn’t be a good option for your international customers.

Q. Will you be offering MS SQL Server any time soon (demanded by our on-premises clients therefore sensible for all our deployments) and how will that affect pricing if so

Our servers are all running Linux, so MS SQL won’t be supported. However, you could do a dedicated cloud server for about $100/month that runs Windows and run MS SQL.

my base client in indonesia, is it possible to use your hosting…?

Yes, it is possible. The server would still be here in the USA, but your clients could connect from Indonesia.
