Cannot start repository, it may not be running on server

Does anyone know how to fix this error when connecting to a remote server using win xp pro?

is your database running? does the server admin page show all solutions? are the required ports open on your firewall?

The database is running and all solutions are showing.
I can run the webclient no problem on my machine, so i think is has to do with the firewall software on my laptop as i can run the java client on another laptop that does not have any external firewall software installed.

Ports 8080 and 1099 need to be open.

I can see 1099 is set in the Network properties, but can’t see where 8080 is supposed to be set.I guess that is the default, hence why the webclient works.
