Cool browserbean!

Hi,

I wanted to show, what’s possible with the cool browserbean of IT2BE
You can build a tight integration with Google Maps.

Thanks Marcel, for this great functionality! :D

Likker! Likker!

Wow, nice sample! Thanks for sharing :)

I was thinking of using Browser bean inside a form in smart client to show Google Maps. I downloaded the demo and it woks wonderfully. But it doesn’t work with Java 1.6 on a Mac and it is not compatible with Servoy 4.0. Besides that it seems that the future of this bean is uncertain.

Any one has any idea of another way to show GoogleMaps inside smart client (not web client, I don’t like it very much) not using Browser bean?

Google has a static maps API that lets you generate maps as images from HTTP GET requests. They obviously don’t have the functionality of a web-based map, but you can create biz logic in Servoy that creates static maps on the fly and duplicate some of what the web-based maps can do.

Check it out: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/docume … taticmaps/

Besides that it seems that the future of this bean is uncertain.

That is not really what I wrote.
The way the current bean is is uncertain.
There will come another one though with different libs, which libs is uncertain :)

Thank you very much for the hint on using static maps, and thanks Marcel for the clarification on the Browser bean future. Actually, the future of the libs used doesn’t really matter to me

Today we added support for Vista (did not always work for everybody).
We also fixed a long standing bug that prevented the Browser Bean from working on WIndows in combination with Firefox 3.0 installed.

The update will be available later today or tomorrow.

This also is a good step in the direction of releasing the bean for 4.0 (no eta yet though).

That’s great news Marcel, thanks for all your effort!
