Hi,
do you think it’s possible (I’ve a good feeling about it, but I’m not sure ) to write a method that shows a prompt to the user like:
“Choose the volume you want to catalogue” and then, after user’s selection, starts to search into the volume, creates thumbnails of the hi-res images it contains and write the path into a field?
I’ve got a couple of customers not completely happy with Canto Cumulus and it could be a good option to do the switch…

Sounds like the Troi File Plugin using FileMaker but having quite some experience in the Graphic Industry for many years and always tryed to work something out in FM so I’m also very curious about this and hope(d) Servoy could make a difference (one day).
How would Servoy parse out the meta-data, to find out what file it could be like Quark, Illustrator, PhotoShop etc. etc.
Being a developer for the Grapic Industry this is one of the main features I would like to accomplish for my users.

You got me. I developed several products using Troi File and FileMaker, for advertising agencies and graphic industry, and customers are pretty happy with that.
But Servoy has several advantages I’d like to use:
more robust database engine
lower licenses cost
good integration with web standards (You could think to use Servoy to manage the database and provide advanced features; and let php to handle simple database browsing).

I just finished a very complicated export procedure fmpro → XPress, so I know what you’re talking about

I guess both of us have the same goal and options in our minds, developing CRM-solutions for the graphic industry like printing factories and design-agencies combined or integraded with a solution for managing (and viewing) binairy data and textual files wich are common used over there.
Would be nice to exchange some issues over here…
