Data Providers - Column Properties, Description

Please replace Description (nice add, thank you!) with:

  1. User Description - good for column-level Help screens and other user communications

  2. Developer Description - good for us_dev_guys_n_gals. A button (at say a Table Level) entitled “Populate Developer Description from Database” would be handy. This system level method would read metaschema:–> the Comment in the Database Column property for the target db.

Creates a nice natural dev and deployment flow:

  1. UML/class model and other attribute stuff
  2. Physical model (including hardening column descriptors)
  3. DDL and other create scripts and set up db
  4. Read schema into repository (on cruise control via Servoy - gracias!)
  5. Populate Developer Description almost automatically (maybe with a flag or two so I don’t overwrite any post-step 2 documentation with what’s hanging out in the back 40 (db column)).
  6. Populate User Description to feed user documentation

One might consider, in light of item 5, three fields:

  1. User Description
  2. Db Column Comments (dimmed but read in by Servoy just like other attributes)
  3. Developer Notes (place for me to put stuff so I have room left on my desk for a beer, pizza, Jolt Cola or an Eclipse manual)
