I’m trying to start the Sybase Adaptive Service Anywhere Windows Service in a 5.2.8 environment with Sybase 9.0.1.
Yes, you read that right.
I’m getting a “Could not start the Adaptive Server Anywhere - ASASERVICE on Local Computer. Error: 1069. The service did not start due to a logon failure.”
I can see solutions in the Server Admin Pages and I see the batch process running (with errors on the failed databases) but my databases will not start from the Admin pages (except the repository manually).
The databases have all been updated with a 4096 page size and they will start in 5.2.8 developer using Sybase 9.0.1 (from Program Files, the version with services runs off the root directory).

Here’s the error I get upon launching a smart client:

you seem to have a solution that wants to access a disabled server. That is a bit weird, because how can that solution run?
But we made a small fix so that that error will not happen anymore, but you of course will then get an error at the client of a server that is unknown
Is there a way to tell which server it’s looking for?
And I’m getting it when I try to launch ASA as a service.
no not directly from here, it is just what your solution touches.
But do you have disabled servers? Why are these disabled?
Yes:
-ti 0 -x tcpip{dobroadcast=no} -qs -qw -o “D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/sybase_db/sybase_log.txt”
“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/servoy_repository.db”
#“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/bug.db”
#“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/user_data.db”
#“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/example.db”
#“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/log_data.db”
#“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/udm.db”
“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/contact_mgmt.db”
“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/vam_so_images.db”
“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/contact_mgmt_images.db”
“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/mod_dm_email.db”
#“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/directdebeer.db”
“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/image_database.db”
“D:/Program Files/Servoy/application_server/database/open_quotes.db”
I do not need them…
thats not what i meant, disabled db server on the admin page.
There you seem to have disabled or maybe invalid servers.
That are still used in the clients solution.
All the ones disabled above are disabled on the Admin pages.
When I try to enable one, say pdf forms, or re-enable one, say contact_mgmt, I get:
Could not get a connection with the updated server. See log for more details.
Reason: JZ00L: Login failed. Examine the SQLWarnings chained to this exception for the reason(s).
One’s that are enabled and should have launched have this:
ERROR: NOT ONLINE. See log for details.
And on the log I get:
http-8080-1 ERROR com.servoy.j2db.server.Zc.Zo Final get connection failure for server pdf_forms in 1 times
and
http-8080-1 ERROR com.servoy.j2db.server.Zc.Zo Final get connection failure for server contact_mgmt in 1 times
What Johan means is that one of your connections defined in Servoy server that you disabled is being used in your solution.
Since you disabled them also in Sybase enabling them in Servoy won’t do you any good because the database is not up and running (Sybase didn’t open them).
I suggest you do a search (if you are in Eclipse) (ctrl-h) and search in all *.frm files for the connection names you have disabled.
When found you can OR reassign this form to another connection (or none) OR enable this specific connection in Servoy (and Sybase.conf).
Hope this helps.
I understand what he’s saying… it’s the stupid log_data database. But even when I enable it. I’m still getting those same errors launching ASA services.
Could being the wrong page size be the issue? In other words, the servoy_repository is 4096 but the other databases are still only 2048.
You get errors, but does this mean it won’t open this log_date database ?
If it’s open and accessible then your solution shouldn’t give any more errors.
The Sybase error is then a whole other matter.
The following databases get the, “ERROR: NOT ONLINE. See log for details.” on Database Servers in Admin Pages:
log_data.db
contact_mgmt.db
vam_so_images.db
contact_mgmt_images.db
mod_dm_email.db
image_database.db
open_quotes.db
This one is online:
servoy_repository.db - online
These are Not Enabled:
bug.db - Not enabled
user_data.db - Not enabled
example.db - Not enabled
udm.db - Not enabled
Sounds to me Sybase is not using the sybase.conf but opens the repository db directly and thus only one single database.
Do you see entries in the sybase log? if not then it doesn’t use the sybase.conf.
Well, the ASA Windows service will not run.
When I open the repository via dbeng9 and then run servoy_server.bat I get the following errors:
2011-06-24 05:54 http-8080-4 ERROR com.servoy.j2db.server.Zc.Zo Final get connection failure for server contact_mgmt in 1 times
And I can’t start the other databases from the Admin pages… other than that my move to v5 has been perfect ![Smile :)]()

This is because you only opened 1 single database and that is the repository database. All the others are not opened by Sybase.

Servoy doesn’t start any database for you. It only tries to connect to them.
You can however disable/enable the connection. But this does nothing to the (supposedly) running database.
There is the root of all your troubles. Fix that first.
Excellent. How? That error tells me nothing. Johan hinted that it was an issue with a database connection. I know it was the log_data database. It’s set properly in the sybase.config. In fact everything is set up exactly as it is in my version that is running in Program Files with the exception of services. But I still can’t launch the ASA service same error, and I can’t mimic it via servoy_servery.bat.
In the Servoy Admin Pages I should be able to enable and disable a database connection. I cannot.
And the Log is only telling me that the batch processor couldn’t make a properly connection via a relation to a database that is not running.
Any other ideas?
The error in question is “Could not start the Adaptive Server Anywhere - ASASERVICE on Local Computer. Error: 1069. The service did not start due to a logon failure.”.
So this means your ASA service is trying to launch under an invalid user. At least that’s what I get from a quick google session on the terms “The service did not start due to a logon failure 1069”.
Perhaps any other Windows user can provide you with more info on how to fix that.
I did try that before because of the ‘logon’ error, so I set it to, This Account, this entire time where I could set the admin password.
I just reset it back to Local System account but I noticed I had to reboot. Now the service is starting but never finishes…
Okay, so there were two issues:
-
There is an ASASERVICE parameter which needs to be set. Since I created the service first with Sybase Central and then with a services only install of v3.5.10 it did not have the correct path for a v5.2.8 install : @D:\Servoy\application_server\sybase_db\sybase.config
-
So now the config file was being written to properly and I could see one database was failing the entire start up:
D:/Servoy/application_server/database/mod_dm_email.db"
The extra quotes at the end was a remnant from the time when the Servoy folder was in the Program Files folder.
So now all databases have started up under services and I can hit the admin pages.
The lesson here? If you’re doing this at 4AM you’ve probably been up for almost 24 hours and therefore you are close to being legally drunk and careless…
So my last issue is that I cannot open a client. Here is the error that I am getting:
Java Web Start 1.6.0_17

Johan?
as i said before this error “Caused by: java.io.NotSerializableException: com.servoy.j2db.server.Zc.Zo”
is caused by a disabled server in the admin pages. (so not sybase server that is disabled, but the server connection configuration inside servoy that is disabled)
