getting the color of a special matte border

Hovering over the property of an object often reveals the color value.

I made I color a while back that I like using the special matte border type, and would like to save the value in a style. Hovering over the border property doesn’t reveal it, nor does hovering over the color sample in the special matte dialog.

Is there a simple way to snag the value?

thx

Jim

Hi Jim

As a work-around (sometimes its good to re-live the bad old days !) I do a screenprint then open the image in Fireworks and use their color picker.

This is a Mac OS X only tip though.
But I always use DigitalColor Meter.app
It shows the color code (in many notations) of any PIXEL you point at.

You find it at /Applications/Utilities/DigitalColor Meter.app

Hope this helps.

Hi Robert,

This is a really great tip.

I was bemoaning this fact only the other day and I have been using web sites with RGB → hex converters up to now to get what I want.

Top marks and thanks

Hey, that’s a great tip, Robert! As one who uses OSX unless otherwise constrained, that platform specificity is no problem. What a nice clean little utility. Reminds me of why I love the Mac.

Thanks also, Graham. Nice to know an xplat solution, too.
