In what client are you testing this? Servoy 8 introduced a completely different browser based client called the ng client. The google maps implementation for the non ng client technologies will not work in ng client and have to be replaced by ng client specific components.

I have this issue also, in web client rather than ng client - where in Servoy 5 I was displaying a static google map in an html area, in Servoy 8 it does not display unless I also make the html area editable (which I don’t want). I was simply setting the html area with the google map string (which works fine when simply pasted in the url field in a browser).
Please try the google maps web component for Servoy NG Client. No code required. You can install it from the “web package manager” https://github.com/Servoy/svyGMaps/wiki
