I have a Developer Edition 2.2.7 with 3 licenses (MacFan Promo). I can make a database and hook up with a client. I would like to make a solution that I can use in our very small business (3 computers 1 or 2 users). What is the advantage for using the real server with separate Client licenses? I can imagine that it is not suitable for big data transfer or 100+ clients but what are the big differences?
PS Does the 3 in the Developer license mean 3 clients? I only have 3 computers to test it. Or can I install the Developer on 3 computers?
You license thing depends on the type of license. Please have a look at your license scheme for a good answer. Maybe I am wrong here.
Developing on your production environment means that you can create issues with your pk’s. And that’s one of your smaller issues… There is a lot more to be found on the forum about what issues can arise.
Hi Frank, I think we met once on a confituur session in Eindhoven.
If I remember it right, the promo of MacFan, was a free developer license!
(with the developer you can always test 3 clients at the same time)
you got only one licensenumber, right?
so the developer(license) is for development, not for live-production
the best way is to develop on your developer-machine (with you code) and export your solution.
Import the solution on your servoy-server(production) (which is the exact same installation as a developer, only you start it differently) For this server you need client-licenses, which you can buy in the Servoy shop.
Am I not allowed to do so? Is this part of the license agreement or are there technical reasons not to so. (In my specific situation!)
HJK:
btw: you don’t have to to buy the servoy-server. the server is automatically included when you buy a client license.
I do know that but I have an “old” 2.2.7 Developer and if I want to upgrade I have to pay 650$ for version 3 and another 600$ for two clients and some expensive weeks or months to learn Servoy and make my new solution. (And an extra 1000$ for an separate server?)
This would make the step rather big because I do already have the Filemaker tools to do more or less the same. I am really interested in Servoy and love to learn more of it but it must not become an to expensive hobby because I am not very sure yet if I am enough developer to use Servoy.
There are no client licenses built-in Servoy Developer. Servoy Developer allows up to three concurrent clients to connect for the sole purpose of testing a solution. To avoid any confusion: a Client license is the right to use the client as described in the Servoy License Agreement.
If you want to deploy in a small workgroup you should still run the Application Server, unlike Filemaker you do not have to pay separately for the Server and you can perfectly run a Server on a client pc if you are in a small network and/or have a restricted budget.
