JAVA (TM) Update fails to apply changes to your system.

This is the error our VP gets when trying to install Java 1.4.2_04 or _05 on his system. (Error 1722) In each case we have done a complete uninstall of both Servoy and Java. But no luck.

His systems says it’s XP SP1, but he says he installed Service Pack 2.

Has anyone had any problems with XP SP2?

Is everyone really doing the development work on Macs?

Thanks as always in advance!

What kind of account is installing java?
You must be an administrator/power user

When I exit out to the log in screen it just shows up with the one account name option.

I can go into the Documents and Settings folder and see how many accounts there are. Other than that, how do I see if an account is set to admin on a PC?

Sorry, I’m a Mac user by trade.

Thanks!

in windows everything is in logical places :)

Control Panel->User accounts

Look there for youre user and see what kind of user you are (Limitted or Adminstrator/power user ect)

No, there sem to be quite a few of us that have crossed over to “the dark side”

I was trying to do my dev work on a Mac on a plane to Cleveland this past weekend. Unfortunately, all I got was a trip to the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame and a really really cool WWII sub, the USS COD.

We have installed Servoy with Java 1.4.2_05 on 2 machines with SP2. However, we did have problems getting it to install initially in the admin account. My only advice would be to make sure to remove everything (including webstart) and then restart. Also, we had a problem with Norton 2004 trying to scan everything as Java unpacked the setup components, so that had to be turned off. We could not get 04 to install. Just my 2 cents.

I ended up wiping the drive because everytime I asked the system what version of XP it had installed it always reported SP 1, never SP 2, even though SP 2 is installed.

Now the Dell discs are not installing the drivers, so we can’t get online, can’t reset the display, can’t do anything. But I’m curious to deal with Delll help.

This is one of those examples where even the most diehard PC user must realize there is a better way… mac.

After reading your comments on problems with installation of Java on XP SP2 I checked my java version. I was running 1.4.2_04_b05 so I decided to install the latest Java SDK (1.4.2_05).

I didn’t delete anything before I installed it over my old installation.I did however stop the servoy_repository. Not sure if that is needed but I did anyway.

Installation went without problems on my administrative account and after a reboot everything works, no problems so far.
Servoy tells me that I now use Java 1.4.2_05_b04.

I use XP Proff. SP2.

Believe me…NO platform is without problems. Not even a Mac.
And I am a die hard Mac user (who also uses Windows and Linux)
